Families Connected:

This is a support group for adoptive and foster families located in eastern Nebraska or western Iowa with at least one child of African-American descent, as well as families who are preparing to adopt a child who is African, African American or bi-racial. We plan fun events for the entire family to enjoy. We also meet to discuss issues such as racism, hair and skin care, black history and other issues faced by transracial families. Education is a key factor when you are an adoptive or foster parent.  African American children will face a lot of challenges in their lives, perhaps even more so if they are being raised by parents of another race.  As parents we need to do our best to try and prepare them and ourselves.
